The Road to Scholarships

tips and hints for junior high & high school students planning to use scholarship monies to pay for their continuing education

An Upcoming Scholarship for Seniors

I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it many more times, the earlier you begin your scholarship preparation, the more opportunities you will have.  That’s why I’ve decided to vary this blog, sometimes for younger students, sometimes for students needing scholarships now, yesterday even.

Today’s scholarship is only available to high school seniors. However, armed with the knowledge the scholarship exists, and it’s requirements, younger students can incorporate that information in their lives. By knowing what scholarship committees will be looking for students can take steps to include those qualifications in their resume.

The AXA Equitable Life Insurance company offers two types of scholarships. The first, is for families of AXA. To qualify for this scholarship students must be high school seniors, and children of eligible AXA employees or financial professionals. They award up to 50 of these $2,000 scholarships.  More information about the family scholarship can be found here.

These scholarships are both examples of how a student’s actions are more important than financial need, since financial need isn’t required.

The other scholarship is open to students nationwide and  is sponsored by the AXA Achievement Scholarship Program and U.S. World News & Report.  The qualifing recipients will have demonstrated an outstanding achievement in their school, community, or work activities.  While, this is a nationwide scholarship, students actually only compete against students in their state since an award recipient in every state.

Scholarship amounts range from $2000 to $25,000 and focus on students’ personal accomplishments. More information for this scholarship can be found at their website, here.

Both of these scholarships are for high school seniors planning to attend a two or four year college next year.Seniors wanting to apply need to get busy, the deadline is Dec. 15.

Which means younger students can’t apply. However, it’s a good scholarship to have in their scholarship arsenal, and knowing this money is available will help motivate them to be active in their activities.

To high school seniors, good luck with your scholarship quest. To the younger students, keep your eye on the prize, you have the chance to get a free college education.
