College is expensive, no matter where you attend or how you spread the cost out, it’s just an expensive endeavor. However, one way to cut costs is to let someone else pick up the tab. That’s what scholarships are about.
A book, “The Road to College Scholarships” is in the works aimed at helping students stand out and receive scholarships. This blog is a companion to that book. Periodically I will post snippets from the book that students can use now.

It looks like the wave of economic problems is starting to swamp colleges. This exclusive story reports troubling indications from registrars’ offices across the country. And we offer some good advice about what to do if you can’t pay your college bills.

I hope you like the story.
By the way, I cover higher education for US News & World Report, so I’m always interested in hearing from people like you about what you’re seeing and hearing from students and colleges.
I also write a blog, college cash 101, where I try to answer people’s questions about financial aid.
I hope you find it useful.
Thanks,

I can imagine how the economy is going to be affecting things like scholarships and other financial services. I just hope that the money ends up going to where it should – that is, to the people who really have no other options.
